CT is based on X-rays. They are delivered by an X-ray tube rotating around the patient while the table moves through the gantry containing the tube and digital receptors receiving the penetrating X-rays. The data collected are transformed into a volume of digital data which can be analysed in arbitrary 2- and 3-dimensional (2D and 3D) planes.
